Position Summary
The Department of Music invites part-time faculty candidates for Lecturer in Music Therapy Services within the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. This faculty position will teach Music Therapy Practicum in UIW's Music Therapy Services Center and will also provide support to the Music Therapy Service Center, based on the Center's schedule.
In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of part-time faculty members at the University include teaching and professional activities as assigned.
Essential Functions
Basic Instructional Duties:
- Prepare course outlines and teach Music Therapy Services course based on approved departmental syllabi; prepare and deliver consistent, interactive lectures.
- Prepare and execute timely and meaningful assessments for assigned courses.
- Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met.
- Be available outside of class to help students learn as well as answer their questions (1 hour per 3-hour class, physically and/or electronically); incorporate and supervise undergraduate music therapy students for 10-week practicum placements with MTSC clients.
- Observe and assist undergraduate music therapy students for advanced practicum placements with MTSC clients. Evaluate music therapy students at midpoint and endpoint of each 10-week practicum and advanced practicum students at the end of each semester.
- Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies and processes including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
- Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
- Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings upon request.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Music Therapist Duties:
- Design, coordinate, and provide music therapy services and programs for a variety of patient and community populations.
- Perform interventions utilizing music therapy techniques and skills as appropriate for the age, condition, and needs of the patient or group served.
- Document patient information, therapy provided, feedback, and results.
- Perform initial and ongoing assessments of patient's condition and needs.
- Perform other clinical duties as assigned.
Job Duties
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Ability to perform music therapy assessments, treatment planning, and treatment implementation based on the needs of individual clients
- Knowledge of the clinical needs of relevant clinical populations
- Knowledge of appropriate music therapy techniques and interventions
- Knowledge of relevant HIPAA and FERPA privacy considerations
- Ability to provide constructive feedback to students in both written and verbal form
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with students, clients, and other professionals both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to document in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ability to work constructively in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to interact with constituents in a positive, friendly, and helpful way.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy from an AMTA-approved program.
Required Work Experience
- Teaching and/or supervising experience in music therapy or related field.
- Two (2) years of clinical music therapy experience with a variety of populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in Music Therapy or related field.
- Prior experience supervising undergraduate music therapy students.
- Neurologic Music Therapist designation.
- Experience working with brain injury, IDD, military, and mental health populations.
- Functional Spanish.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
- Music Therapist, Board Certified (MT-BC).
- CPR/First Aid Certification.
- Professional Liability Insurance.
Work Hours
Based on Center’s schedule.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 lbs of instruments;
- Ability to reach overhead, bend, squat to facilitate music therapy interventions.
