About American Express Enterprise Cloud Engineering Team:

American Express Enterprise Cloud team provides comprehensive platform that enables business critical applications to have Faster Time-to-Market for American Express. EC offers fast-paced rapid code-to-development models and services such as Platform-as-a-Service, Infrastructure-as-a-Code, Database-as-a-Service, Analytics-as-a-Service, Messaging-as-a-Service, CICD Pipelines, etc. for application developers in a hybrid cloud environment.Enterprise Cloud Engineering enables application developers to write modern scalable cloud native applications.

Job Description:

As a Software Engineer for Quality Engineering team of Enterprise Cloud, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, scalability and performance of our Platform-as-a-Service at American Express in private and public cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP). You will work closely with cross-functional teams to implement best practices, automate operations, and drive continuous improvement in our platform Infrastructure. This role requires pro-active problem-solving skill to identify the issue before they impact production environments. You will also contribute to the continuous improvement of the platform by driving best practices and ensuring robust quality controls are in place.

Responsibilities:

·Define Quality standards and performance benchmarks for the platform components

·Collaborate with the product managers, developers and platform devOps teams to understand the requirement and build effective test plans

·Continuously improve test automation frameworks to handle new platform feature and upgrades

·Develop API libraries that can be used by QE team to extend the integration testing for various cloud platform integration workflows (i.e. PaaS, IaaS, DBaaS, xPaaS, CI/CD, Network, etc)

·Integrate test automation with Jenkins, GitHub, GitHubAction  and execute regression tests on nightly build

·Experience with CI/CD and project management tools (e.g. Git, GHA, Jenkins, Jira, Confluence)

·Identify and troubleshoot platform bottlenecks and issues in the platform’s performance

·Monitor and ensure platform availability, stability and performance metrics meet predefined SLA’s

·Perform security and compliance testing to identify vulnerabilities and areas of risk

·Automate the testing for the Kubernetes and OpenShift clusters to ensure scalability and security using the testing frameworks

·Ensure the reliability and performance of the service discovery, loadBalancing and traffic routing within the mesh

·Test and validate Istio, gloo-mesh, service Mesh configurations, traffic policies and security features

·Collaborate with SRE and Platform Engineering teams to integrate observability tooling, such as Dynatrace, Grafana, Prometheus into the testing platforms

·Design and Implement automated test cases to validate container orchestration, networking and service-Mesh integration

·Conduct load, stress, resiliency and performance tests on OpenShift and Kubernetes clusters on On-prem and Public Cloud to ensure that they handle the scale and load effectively

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ year’s experience in Software Quality Engineering, platform testing or similar roles
  • 4+ years of experience in leading Cloud (AWS or GCP) and infrastructure design and implementation for highly available and scalable enterprise grade platforms and applications
  • 4+ years of software development experience in one object-oriented programming language: Java, Python, Go
  • 3+ years of experience with Infrastructure automation tools, Terraform preferred, with a focus on immutable infrastructure.
  • 4+ Years of Experience with Container & Orchestration Technologies such as Docker, or Kubernetes
  • Strong experience on cloud architecture, cloud fundamentals on compute, network, storage, and security to ensure high availability while ensuring the highest level of security, compliance, and visibility.
  • Good understanding of cloud networking concepts and traffic flow management
  • Experience in managing multi-tenant and highly resilient services across various cloud computing models.
  • Experience in CI/CD, Infra-as-code frameworks tools (i.e Terraform, Ansible), API Gateways, CNCF technologies, Cloud Native application architectures.
  • Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Splunk, ELK, Dynatrace, Stack driver, cloud watch and cloud trail.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related science discipline or relevant experience
  • Strong communication, listening, and negotiation skills; able to convey important messages in a clear and compelling manner.


Have knowledge or with hands-on-experience on:

·Experience with Cloud technologies (OpenShift, OpenStack, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, GCP)

·Experience with mesh technologies (gloo-mesh, serviceMesh and istio networking)

·Groovy, GoLang, Rally, Selenium, TestNG, JMeter, Ruby, Inspec Framework.   WebDriver automation experience is a big plus.

·Experience in Terraform/Terratest

·Experience testing DB technologies:  Oracle, MySQL, Cassandra, Redis, Couchbase, MongoDB, etc.

·Knowledge on logging & monitoring tools like Splunk, AppDynamics, Grafana, etc is a plus

·Experience in Docker, Vagrant, Kubernetes is a plus

·Experience in testing end-to-end app lifecycle via UI/API/Platform in Cloud

·Regularly conduct brownbag sessions to broader developer community

Nice to Have:

·Fast learner, eager to use and understand new technologies

·Detail oriented, with solid analytical skills and problem-solving ability

·Can demonstrate dedication to quality and have a positive, collaborative approach to testing

·Self-motivated; always in the look-out for improvement opportunities and can work independently

·Knowledge in cloud/cloud consumption (primarily in private cloud)

Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
